Yes, we’re hearing everywhere we turn about how Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Blogs everywhere are giving tips and tricks on what to do to have a happy Valentine’s Day with your sweetheart and not break the bank or spend the last few dollars the recession has left you.

Well, what about those who don’t want to celebrate Valentine’s Day? People, who don’t have a sweetheart, thank you very much for reminding us we are alone St. Valentine.

I think it’s important for people who are not interested in celebrating Valentine’s day, to celebrate themselves or their family and friends so as not to be swept up in the non-sense that is jealousy over the large bouquet of red roses and heart shaped box of chocolates the woman on the other side of your cubical just received.

Here are some inexpensive ways to celebrate in a non-mushy, pink heart splattered, red roses by the dozen way.

Slasher Movies

Slasher movies, especially the gory ones are the best remedy for a lonely Valentine’s evening. Invite over all your single girlfriends to watch the latest horror flick you rented from your local library. Make sure to assign each friend an inexpensive snack food or beverage to bring along.

Pizza Night

Invite over all your single friends or just hang with your family and create homemade pizzas. Pizza is relatively inexpensive to make especially when you have each person bring an ingredient. Don’t forget the wine, this is a perfect occasion for that two buck chuck!

Make your Own Friendlytines

Take advantage of the giving and the mush and make friendlytines for your friends. Ok, so this one is somewhat mushy, but all of those friends who are in the same boat with no one to be their valentine will really appreciate that they have a friendlytine in you. You can do this through message’s on your favorite social media site like MySpace, Facebook, or Twitter. You can send e-cards or you can go old school and make your friendlytines out of paper and art supplies from the dollar or thrift store.

Bubble Bath

If you don’t have any single friends, or at least any that won’t be lamenting on Valentine ’s Day. Hit up the bubbles. If you’re solo, pamper yourself. A bubble bath with some Champaign (it’s usually sale for $6 and under for the holiday), a home pedicure, and a nice home cooked meal will do the trick. Celebrate yourself!

What are you doing for the holiday?
